Meet Alexa
Alexa Shank is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) with over a decade of experience helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of eating disorder recovery. As a clinician, Alexa brings deep compassion, authenticity, and insight to her work with parents.
Before becoming a therapist, Alexa trained and performed as a professional dancer and spent two seasons with the San Antonio Spurs dance team—an experience that shaped her understanding of body image, perfectionism, and the pressure to achieve. Her personal journey through disordered eating gives her a unique perspective on the emotional toll eating disorders can have—not just on the individual, but on the entire family.
Today, Alexa is passionate about equipping parents with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to play an active role in their child’s healing. She believes that when parents are informed and empowered, recovery becomes not only possible—but sustainable.

We can help.
We started Eating Disorder Academy because we saw a gap in the support system for parents. In our work as eating disorder specialists, we’ve walked alongside countless families—many of whom feel just as exhausted, scared, and confused as their child in treatment.
The parents in our practices often ask the same questions, wrestle with the same doubts, and carry the same emotional weight—yet feel like they have nowhere to turn. We wanted to change that. EDA was created to be more than just an educational resource; it’s a trusted community where parents can access expert support and connect with others who get it. Because no parent should have to figure this out alone.
